Cationic polyacrylamide: An excellent “tool” for water treatment

2025-06-06 11:26:42

In numerous fields such as water treatment, papermaking, and oil extraction, cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) plays an indispensable role and can be regarded as an excellent “tool” for water treatment.
Cationic polyacrylamide is a linear polymer with positive charge groups. This characteristic enables it to perform well in water treatment. It can rapidly coagulate suspended particles and colloidal substances in water through electro-neutralization and bridging adsorption, forming larger flocs, thereby achieving excellent solid-liquid separation and significantly improving water quality.
In the paper industry, cationic polyacrylamide can be used as a retention and filtration aid, increasing the retention rate of paper and the filtration performance, and reducing production costs. In oil extraction, it serves as a displacement agent, improving the flow ratio of oil and water, and increasing the recovery rate of crude oil.
In addition, cationic polyacrylamide has the advantages of low dosage, quick effect, and strong adaptability. However, when using it, it is necessary to pay attention to controlling conditions such as pH value and stirring speed to fully exert its performance. With the increasingly strict environmental requirements and the increasing demand for excellent treatment materials in various industries, the application prospects of cationic polyacrylamide will be broader, and it is expected to shine in more fields and contribute to sustainable development.
